I don't mind being fifty.  I don't mind being fat...... most of the time.  But when my cute co-workers come to work in the most DARLING clothes and the CUTEST bodies...... then is when I mind being the big 5 0.  Well, and larger than life.  And my eyes don't like to focus and see things close up.  Rats!  I'm getting old.  That I can't change, but the fat part...... I know I can, but do I have the motivation?  It would be so much easier if I didn't have to give up sugar and carbohydrates.  Not to skip over the fact that I need to exercise as well.   Sheesh!

The other thing is you have to have lots of money to dress the way the cute people dress.  You have to have those green bills with high dollar amounts to get the types of clothes I need.  You know, extra fabric equals extra bucks.  Lane Bryant ain't cheap.  Oh well..... maybe in the  next life.  Will there be sugar there?

Nothing of grand proportion has happened since the last post.  I needed something to do in the computer lab is all.  Oh, wait!  Rachel received her Patriarchal Blessing this past Sunday.  She is a very special and wonderful girl.  But then, we knew that already.  Also, rehearsals for "Crossing Delancey" have begun.  It's fun.  I'm going to have a great time.  I'm happy to be in the play for many reasons, but the first one is that I get to spend some time with my hubby.  Scott is so busy these days what with his job and then his writing.  We hardly see each other.  So being in the play that he is directing will be nice.  Plus I get to memorize all of those lines.  I guess I could do that in the computer lab.   Naaaah!

Saw "The Hunger Games" this morning.  We all loved it.  I think we all would have turned around and watched it again if there had been seats.  Great movie.  Well acted, well scripted, and once I got use to the jiggly camera, well shot.  I highly recommend it for anyone over 13.  Because, yes, it is violent.

I get to school today and Mrs. Headman, the Kindergarten teacher, tells us how her students don't ever listen to her.  A lot of them came to school today with pictures of themselves...... "It's picture day!" they said.  Yes, it's spring picture day.  We're going to take your pictures.  They look at her all funny.  Kids!

Paige and I saw "Woman In Black" at the Echo theater. Not the movie, the play.  It was fabulous!  Patrick Kintz and Chipper Davis were so wonderful.  Patrick played several characters with several different accents and pulled them all off.  And the pantomiming!  Oh, boy, you sure could envision that dog and that horse and cart.  ;)   Good on ya, Patrick.  And I wonder if I'm related to Christopher "Chipper" Sherwood Davis.

I took Friday off to spend the day with Paige on her 23rd birthday.  We went to see John Carter and then to lunch at Cafe Rio.  We stopped by F.Y.E. to spend her birthday money and then home to prep for the opening night of "Anne of Green Gables."  It was a splendid day.  I enjoyed being with Paige and eating yummy food and seeing John Carter.  The show went super well and the audiences are loving it.  I have a wonderful life.

I hadn't wanted to see John Carter.  I just didn't care, but I loved it!  I don't care if it didn't follow the book to the letter, having never read it, so the story was fun and very entertaining.  I know that there are those "purest" out there (Jim Adams), but as far as I'm concerned, John Carter was well worth the money.  I was going to do a little review of it, but I don't want to.  I'll just say this..... if you were wondering whether or not to go....... Just do it!  It was filmed in Utah, so the scenery is great.  The actor playing John Carter is fairly handsome, so the eye candy is great.  And last, but not least, the story is fun and interesting.  The music is fabulous and I came away feeling good.

Rachel went to a multi-stake dance Saturday night.  She wore green and had a great time with all of her friends.  I'll post pictures soon.

Rachel also spent a couple of hours last week in the ER.  Nothing serious, in fact...... Nothing SERIOUS at all.  She had run her finger through the sewing machine at school.  The secretary thought there was still the needle tip in her finger.  X-rays showed nothing.  So I have a 400 dollar ER bill for Rachel's newest story.  Sheesh!

We've added 3 performances to the "Anne of Green Gables" run at the Covey Center in Provo.  Tickets are selling briskly and we only have 5 out of the 12 performances left with seating.  The new dates are:  Monday March 26, Tuesday March 27, and Wednesday March 28.  Tickets are also still available for the 29th and the 31st of March.  Seating is general admission, first come, first served so you will want to arrive early for best seating.

The black box is a small, 60 seat, theater which makes for an intimate theatrical experience, but doesn't have seating for a large crowd.  We actually love performing in this space.  It's a wonderful experience if you have the time to go.  You'll be rewarded!  Even if I'm biased.

Wedding Announcement 1986

Scott and me.

The girls

Scott and I went to see a play last night.  It's a surprise really, I don't usually like to watch plays.  Weird, as I act in and direct them, but that's the way it is.  I get too fidgety and bored.  But last nights performance of "The Crucible" at the Grand theater in SLC held my interest.

The first observation was that the Grand theater is quiet beautiful.  It's the old style of almost Gothic architecture with flowery moldings and high arched ceilings. The stage is massive and filled with all those cool fly systems and scrims and lights.  But the seats are old and hard.  Scott had to go stand in the back so his back wouldn't kill him.  I sat alone.

"The Crucible" written by Arthur Miller, is about the Salem Witch Trials and was written in the 1950's during the McArthey era.  Social issues were very similar during both time periods, and the scary thing is; we're seeing these same issues today.  One falsehood spread to the masses can create mass hysteria which ends in social discombobulation.  Anyway, enough of the social and political stuff.  I don't know much about them.  So I'll go onto other things that I still don't know much about.

The performance:  I couldn't hear very well even though the actors had mics. There was a ton of high pitched screaming that only young teenage girls can do.  That was bothersome.  Some of the actors, even though they had performed a lot all over Salt Lake County, were not very good.  I was confused on how they got cast.  I know as a director that if you can get a really good cast, then your job is 75% done. Anyway, these things were minor.  Sort of.

I really loved Dave Hanson and Cassandra Stokes-Wylie as John and Elizabeth Proctor.  Their scenes together were moving and well acted.  I liked the intimate feeling of their relationship.  I also liked Max Robinson as Judge Danforth,  Richard Scharine as Giles Corey, and Tyson Richard Baker as Rev. Hale.  The rest of the cast were okay, or terribly bad.  The young girls who played the children who started the hysteria of the witch trials will only get better as they get older and get more acting experience.  The group scenes were very disjointed and lacked focus. Scott didn't much care for the direction of the piece. It's a good thing the play speaks for itself.  It's kind of hard to ruin "The Crucible" completely.

Over all I enjoyed the play and my evening.

In other news:  I don't have strep, only some other virus that should get better with the antibiotics I'm taking.  "Anne of Green Gables" opens this week in the Brinton Black Box at the Covey.  I know that at least 3 shows are sold out with others close to it, so come see the show, but get tickets soon.  Like tomorrow!

Bye for now.

I love this picture.  Beautiful!  I'd like to live in this field of flowers as these pretty clouds pass overhead. Yes, I live in a dream world.
Strep.  Been plagued with it for years now. Going to the doctor soon.  I think I should just be able to call in for my own drugs.  I know what it is even without a culture, but I guess the doctors need to make their money somehow.  Should I post a picture?  I didn't think so.  Besides, I don't know how, so the point it moot.

Blood.  I was going to give blood today, I'm O- so everyone wants it, but I have strep. If you're ever in need of a transfusion, look me up.  If  I don't have strep, I'm your gal.

Effects.  I'm looking for sound effects for the play.  A train whistle, children talking and playing, and a school bell.  I'm going to have to wait till Scott gets home.  He's the one who knows how to down load them and record them onto a CD.  I don't know how to do that either.  Gosh, I'm very illiterate. Computer savvy I am not.  Savvy?  I do love that word, however.

Words.  This is my last one for today.  Sunny!  Okay, one more.... WooHoo!

Trying out the picture thing.  I believe that Paige took this picture at Cascade Springs last fall. I like it.
This is what I learned this weekend.

Drink water!  Walk to work! Don't eat three pieces of cake!

Don't kill your 20 year old son, Michael, for getting yet another tattoo and a piercing.  Love your family and talk to them.  Pray together and only watch a couple episodes of "Smallville" each day, not 7.

Enjoy the weather.  At least for the 5 minutes it's sunny.  We do live in Utah after all.

Youth knows all.  So don't get offended when they tell you they know all about their new calling because they've done it already.  And then to get back at them, leave out some important piece of information.  They'll soon learn that they don't know everything.  Spiteful of me, I know.

Make appointments to get your hair colored, whether it's with your brother or someone else.

And last, but not least...... Sleep instead of playing cards on the computer.  You'll feel better in the morning.

I was interviewed in a promotional video for "Anne of Green Gables" at the Covey Center in Provo. I'm the director.  So I talked about the play, how I help the actors understand their characters and tried to describe the show in five descriptive words.  My words you ask?  I got 4: fun, moving, cosy and endearing.  It was a little scary.  I hope I look and sound good.  Like a professional.

Mark Twain wrote L.M. Montgomery after the 1908 publication of the book and told her that never before in literature was there a more endearing character than Anne.  So this story rings true in all times and to all people both young and old.

I hope the play I direct will help to instill in the audiences at the Covey these same feelings.

I'm hungry.  I should take the time to eat breakfast.  And I knew you wanted to know that.  Next I'll tell you about my dream!  Okay, I won't,but some day I might.
